David J. Stone, 92, of Abbeville, died Sunday, August 27, at Emory-Adventist Hospital in Smyrna, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, August 31 at Cannonville Baptist Church in Abbeville, with Rev. Roy Taylor, Rev. Jimmy McDuffie and Rev. Dwight Harman, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Stone was born August 15, 1914, in Ben Hill County, to the late Willie Jackson and Nancy Carroll Stone. He lived in Wilcox County most of his life. Mr. Stone was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union in Atlanta. He was a member and deacon of Cannonville Baptist Church.
Mr. Stone is survived by his daughters: Emily S. Price of Forest City, NC, Nancy S. Harman of Kingston, TN, Kay Stone of Austell and Jennifer S. Sharpe of Bluff City, TN; sons: David Stone, Jr. of Smyrna and Marcy Stone of Abbeville; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Vera DeShazo and Ethel Turner, both of Fitzgerald, Inez Knight of Athens and Mavis Jackson of Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Etta Teal Stone.
