West Yarmouth, MA – Charles E. Hughes, 80, died Sunday August 27, 2006 at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Born in Lawrence, Mr. Hughes had been a longtime resident of Andover before moving recently to West Yarmouth.
A graduate of Lawrence High School, he went on to graduate from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.
He was the former director of Pharmacy at Bon Secours Hospital, Methuen for 25 years until his retirement. He initiated the Unit-dose program, I.V. therapy program, Chemotherapy, and instituted a countrywide Drug Information Center. He was past president of the Hospital Pharmacists Association, Secretary of the Bon Secours Men’s Guild, member of the Boston Druggist Association. Pharmacy consultant for Isham Infirmary at Phillips Academy, and Merrimack College.
During world war II and the Korean War Charlie served his country in the United States Navy prior to his honorable discharge.
An avid golfer he had been a member of Andover Country Club and Amesbury Country Club.
He is survived by his wife Eileen (Yelle) Hughes, and is survived by two children Linda and husband Richard Patton, of Malden, Robert and his wife Linda Hughes of Andover. Four step-children, Colleen and husband Steven Chartier of Tewksbury, Karen Yelle of Dennisport, Kerry Yelle and wife Diane of Plaistow, NH, Shaun Yelle and wife Joanne of Salem, NH. Also three grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral mass will take place on Thursday morning at 9 o’clock in Saint Monicas Church in Methuen with burial to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
