Maria Amelia (Henriques) Abrantes, age 73, of Somerville passed away on Thursday, September 25th, at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Boston. Born and raised in Paranhos Da Beira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joaquim Henriques and Maria C. Salgado. Maria immigrated to the U.S. in 1979 and settled in Cambridge. She moved to Somerville over ten years ago.
Maria was the beloved wife of Jose M. Abrantes, and the devoted mother of Sandra Da Silva and her husband Jario, Suzana Carvalho and her husband Nelson, David Abrantes and his wife Joanna, Anthony Abrantes and his wife Nicole, and Christine Costa and her husband Joe. She was the loving grandmother of Mathew, Victoria, Mikayla, Joseph, Wesley, Jonathan, Alexis, Priscilla, Lucas, Lilliana, Benjamin, Evander, Alexander, Andrew, Cameron, Logan and Cecilia, and the great grandmother of Bruce. Maria was the dear sister of Armando Henriques and his wife Helena, the late Luis Henriques and his surviving wife Maria, and the late Jose Manuel Henriques and his surviving wife Fernanda.
Visiting hours will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday, October 2nd from 4 to 8 pm, and again on Friday, October 3rd at 10 am, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Ave., Cambridge, at 11 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
