Obituary

Patricia Dwyer Connolly, of Needham. A devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and teacher, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born on February 2, 1936, in Jewett City, Connecticut, Patricia was the daughter of Mary Josephine Driscoll and William John Dwyer. She was the youngest of four children. Patricia attended Griswold High School and went on to Boston College, where she graduated in 1958 as part of the third class of women to receive degrees from the college. Boston College remained especially dear to her heart—it was where she met her future husband, Thomas Connolly. Their long marriage marked by deep love, faith and humor was an enduring example for their children.

Patricia began her career as an elementary school teacher in Natick, Massachusetts, before leaving to raise her four beloved sons. Later, she returned to the classroom at Northeastern University, where she taught English and study skills, inspiring countless students with her patience, humor, and warmth.

A lifelong resident of Needham, Massachusetts, Patricia was known for her easy-going spirit, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a deeply loving mother and “Nan” to her seven grandchildren, who were her greatest source of pride and joy. In her later years, she cherished time spent on Cape Cod, long walks, days on the golf course, and every opportunity to dote on her grandchildren. A devout Catholic, Patricia’s faith was central to her life, and she rarely missed a Sunday Mass.

She will be remembered with immense love by her sons: William of New York; Tom and his wife Cathy of Newton; Brian and his wife Nicole of Needham; and Mark of Boston. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Peter, Thomas, Ella, Caitlin, Hadley, Cece and Tommy.

Patricia’s life was defined by kindness, humor and a profound love for her family. She will be missed deeply, but her legacy will continue to live on in all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
