Virgil C. Purvis, 85, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Brushy Creek Cemetery, in Irwin County, with Scott Spivey officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Purvis was born June 26, 1940, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Ralph and Emma McGee Purvis. He delivered Sunbeam Bread for many years and later worked for the Irwin County Detention Center. Mr. Purvis enjoyed fishing, hunting and his lawn mowers.
He is survived by his children: Angela Kay Purvis Hebert & William of Ocilla and Virgil C. Purvis Jr. of Ocilla; a grandson, Atwood Alan Browning, II of Ocilla and two sisters-in-law: Lou Ellen Watts & Kenny of Huntsville, Alabama and Dale Crocker of Alabama. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Huey Powell Purvis.
