Dorothea Elizabeth Sullivan, known as Dotty, of Brookline, MA, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on April 15, 1935, she was a proud Brookline native and a graduate of Brookline High School.
Dotty worked as the secretary for Dr. Joslin at the Joslin Diabetes Center before turning her lifelong love of cars into a business. She began by detailing cars in her driveway and went on to found the Flanagan and Seaton Car Company. With the help of her late son, Joseph P. Sullivan, Dotty grew the business into a successful 500-car used car dealership—a reflection of her entrepreneurial drive and determination.
She was married for 55 wonderful years to the love of her life, the late Duke Sullivan. Their marriage was a true partnership, built on devotion, laughter, and enduring love.
Dotty was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family. She especially loved spoiling her grandchildren with sunshine-filled trips to the family’s condo in Boca Raton—moments that brought her great joy and created lasting memories. She also had a special affection for her two beloved cats, who brought her comfort and companionship throughout her life.
In her later years, Dotty was lovingly cared for by her son John L. Sullivan of Braintree, whose devotion and support over the past five years brought her comfort and peace. She is survived by John and her beloved grandchildren, who will forever remember her strength, generosity, and silly presents.
