Obituary

WINDHAM- Edith "Edie" M. (Peters) Newcomb, age 77, passed away on September 20, 2025, with family at her sister's home of natural causes. Edie battled many health problems over the years, most recently, vertebral fractures, likely a result of osteoporosis. This condition caused Edie great pain, unrelieved by even the most powerful of medications. However, even the most severe pain couldn't dampen Edie's spirit; she had a smile and a kind word for all whom she met. Regardless of how she felt, Edie always took time and energy for her family and friends.
Edie was born in Gorham, Maine on January 26, 1948, daughter of the late Merrill S. Peters and Arvilla J. (Ford) Nason. She attended schools in Standish and Portland. Edie married and she raised three children. She enjoyed many games to include Bingo, Scrabble, and Poker. Edie was also a skilled pool player. She enjoyed travel and camping, but above all, Edie enjoyed fishing especially with her grandchildren as well as spending time with her children and her sister.
Although mostly a mother and homemaker, Edie worked for a few manufacturing plants to include Hanold and G.T.E. Sylvania in Standish, and Clarostat in Gorham. She also started, owned, and operated a small children's day-care center in Limington.
Edie is predeceased by her parents, a brother, and a sister. She is survived by her sister, Marie Aube of Standish. The two were as close as could be all of their lives, almost as if twins. Also surviving are Edie's three children, Gerald W. Harmon (Jerry) and his partner Jack, Gregory D. Harmon (Greg) and his wife Gemma, and Shannon M. Harmon, a granddaughter, Kayla, a grandson Justin and his wife Nicole, and their son, Edie's great-grandson, Zayden. Edie much loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as her sister, nephews and nieces.
Edie wrote this special note: "I want my family to know that I love them so much and that we will meet again someday".
When well enough Edie much enjoyed worshiping at the First Congregational Church, UCC of Bridgton. She felt especially close to her pastor, the Rev. Emily C. Goodnow, Senior Pastor, who was kind and attentive to Edie.
