Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our dad, our husband, our "papa"—our favorite person in the world, Richard A. Izzi. Richard, 72, of Quincy, formerly of Milton, MA, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. His loving wife of 48 years, Kathy, was by his side.
Born in Boston and raised in Roslindale, Richard was the son of the late Vincent and Mary (O’Halloran) Izzi. He graduated from Catholic Memorial in 1971 and the University of Massachusetts - Boston in 1975. Richard was a loving younger brother to Vincent 'Vinnie' Izzi and brother-in-law to Judy Izzi of Land O Lakes, Florida. He was a cousin and best friend to the late Stephen Izzi, who we believe greeted him with a huge hug in heaven, with their favorite music playing.

Richard was the glue that held the family together. A true optimist, who found the good in every day. He lit up a room with his warm and welcoming presence, and had a kind disposition that made everyone feel at ease. People loved being around him. Richard was adventurous and always up for whatever the family wanted to do. The love and support that he gave his family provided them with the confidence they needed to accomplish anything.

Richard had a deep appreciation for the simple joys: a good dad joke, a trip to the beach, listening to music, watching his favorite Boston Sports teams, and being outside in nature patrolling the wildlife. He also loved a good bargain, armed with a coupon for Ocean State Job Lot. Above all, Richard gave his all to everything, with a quiet, humble pride and deep dedication. Though Richard fought a long and difficult battle with dementia, he somehow managed to keep his humor, positivity, and his kind spirit right to the end. Richard was a beacon of light for his family and his memory will continue to shine brightly in their hearts forever.

Richard was the loving father of Jacqueline Campisi and her husband Anthony of Hingham, MA; Samantha Barkley and her husband Matthew of Cumberland, RI; and John Izzi and his wife Susie of Hanover, MA. Nothing brought Richard more joy than spending time with his five grandchildren: Nicholas, Annabelle, Lily, Brie Izzi, and Bennett Leo. He also loved his time with his grandpets: Viper, Rosie, and Tito. Cherished son-in-law of the late Helen V. (Crowe) and John “Leo” Curran, who loved him like their own.

The family would like to offer gratitude to all of their supportive friends during this very difficult time, and give a special thank you to Catherine “Sol” Solberg and Dianne Mulcahy for all of their love and support of Richard and the family. They always brought smiles to Richard’s face, often with a milkshake or strawberry coolata in hand for him. Sol spent many of her days with Richard while Kathy had to step away, bringing him lunch, going for a walk, and chit chatting. The family would also like to extend gratitude to Kristin and the staff of Alliance Health in Braintree and Serenity Hospice for their exceptional care of Richard.

Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend a funeral mass celebrating Richard’s life on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Saint Agatha’s Church at 10:30 am in Milton, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
