Obituary

CHICOPEE – Irena "Irene" (Toussaint) Remillard, 82, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee and a former longtime resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, September 12, 2025. She Passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Rivière Verte, New Brunswick, Canada on December 21, 1942, a beloved daughter of the late Camille and Rina (Ringuette) Toussaint. She was raised and educated in Rivière Verte and had immigrated to the North End of Springfield in 1963. She lived on Hungry Hill for 35 years before moving to Aldenville in 2008 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a manager at the former Sodom Mountain Campground in Southwick. She had also worked as a waitress at the former Abdow’s Restaurant and as a nurse aide at Mercy Hospital, both in Springfield. She was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield where she also was a member of the Ladies of Sainte Anne of the church, a former communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and currently was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was a member of Les Dames Franco American and the Chicopee Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards, camping, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Lionel M. Remillard who was Called Home on August 8, 2020. They were married on July 31, 1965 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving daughter, Lisa A. Remillard of Ludlow; her cherished grandson, Caleb Guillemette; her former son-in-law, Justin Guillemette of West Springfield; her dear brother, Allan of Springfield; her three dear sisters, Diane Crafsic and her husband, David, of Chicopee, Nancy Toussaint of Quebec, Canada, and Brenda Toussaint of Ware; her dear brothers-in-law, Jean Remillard of West Springfield and Serge Leclerc of Chicopee; her dear sisters-in-law, Lise Larochelle and her husband, Emilien, of West Springfield, Denise Toussaint of Chicopee, and Ghislaine Toussaint of Westfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear brothers, Clarence, Elmer, and Gordon Toussaint; her dear sisters, Linda Toussaint and Camilla Leclerc; her sisters-in-law, Diane Toussaint and Laureanne Dumont, and her sister Nancy's partner, Marc Charland. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
