Obituary

Elaine Rose (Soucy) Squillace, 89, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025 of natural causes in Worcester, MA in the presence of family.

Elaine was born on October 5, 1935 in Lynn, Massachusetts to the late Ralph and Eveline (LaBossiere) Soucy. She was the eldest of five children and often helped care for her younger siblings. She grew up in both Schenectady, NY and Lynn, MA. Upon graduation from Lynn Classical High School in 1954, Elaine worked at Essex Trust in Lynn, MA until marrying her high school sweetheart, the late Richard E. Squillace, on June 21, 1958 at St. Mary’s Chapel in Lynn, MA. They shared 65 years of love and devotion as a married couple.

As newlyweds while Richard served in the Air Force, the Squillaces lived in Philadelphia, PA, Belleville, IL and Tampa, FL where Elaine worked as a bookkeeper at Tiffany Tile Company. Moving closer to family, they lived in Saugus, MA and then in Schenectady, NY, where they resided for over 40 years. Elaine volunteered for many years in Pastoral Care at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Elaine cherished her role as homemaker and mother of their four children. She loved to cook and bake for her family, especially during the holidays. Elaine enjoyed doing ceramics, embroidery, knitting, sewing and swimming. She took pleasure in listening to music, especially the Lawrence Welk Show, and she and Richard loved to watch old movies together.

In later years, Elaine and Richard joyfully embraced their four grandchildren and realized their love for the ocean when moving to Wells, ME in retirement. They were fortunate to share travel to many places including Europe, Jerusalem, cruises to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal, and a train trip cross country.

Elaine was a devout Catholic who strongly believed in the power of prayer and was a devotee of the Rosary. She faithfully prayed for her late husband, children, grandchildren, all mates, extended family and friends on a daily basis. She was generous in her love, selfless and extremely caring. We will miss her dearly.

Elaine is survived by her four children: Dr. Steven R. Squillace of Enfield, CT; Scott E. Squillace, Esq. and his husband Christopher J. Gayton of Provincetown, MA and Palm Springs, CA; Dr. Marie R. Squillace of Arnold, MD; and Dr. Linda S. Gilligan and her husband Paul W. Gilligan of Bedford, NH. She also leaves her four grandchildren: Kathryn A. Squillace of New York, NY; Sarah J. Squillace of Somers, CT; Matthew P. Gilligan of Boston, MA; and Abigail R. Gilligan of Bedford, NH.

Elaine was predeceased by her brother Norman Soucy and is survived by her three other siblings: Bernice Murray of Vero Beach, FL; Thomas Soucy of Lynn, MA; and Gwendolyn Scott of Peabody, MA, along with many dear nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday Oct. 2nd from 4-7 PM in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, MA. A mass of Christian burial celebrating Elaine’s life will be held at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Parish, 8 S. Common Street, Lynn, MA on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:30 AM.
