Obituary

Helen M. (McLaughlin) Werra, a longtime resident of Holbrook, passed away peacefully at her home on September 5th, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 87 years old.

Born to the late Edward F. and Helen M. (Kelley) McLaughlin, Helen was one of five siblings and is predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Jeanette Flemmi, Mildred Hardiman, John McLaughlin, and Thomas McLaughlin. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, George Werra, with whom she shared a beautiful life and raised their four children in Holbrook.

Helen, affectionately known as “Nina” to her family, leaves behind her children: George Werra Jr. and his wife,Sandy of Rockland, Helen McBride and her husband, Butch of Bridgewater, Michael Werra and his wife, Judy of East Bridgewater, and Donna Doherty and her husband, Michael of Holbrook. She was a proud grandmother to Stephen and Samantha of Rockland, Michael Werra Jr. and his wife, Page of Taunton, Stephanie and Matthew Werra of East Bridgewater, the late Kayla Doherty of Holbrook, and Brianna Doherty of Holbrook. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Cade of Taunton.

Helen and George were married in 1957 and together built a warm and loving home. Helen was known for her love of cooking and cleaning, and she was always the life of the party at family gatherings. In her younger years, she could often be found at local bingo halls or enjoying a night out at the Raynham Dog Track. She and George were active members of the Sons of Italy in Quincy, The VFW in Randolph and The Knights of Columbus in Holbrook where they spent many joyful evenings dancing with close friends.

Above all, Helen treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Her humor, and vibrant spirit will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private family celebration of life will be held to honor and remember Helen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Boston or to your local MSPCA
