Ronald James Gilmore Sr., 89, of Franklin passed peacefully September 12 at the Serenity Hill Nursing Home in Wrentham following a brief illness.
Born in Boston, December 1, 1935, the son of the late Albert C. and Helen E. (Morello) Gilmore Sr., Ronald was raised in Roxbury, MA and had lived in Dedham, MA for many years prior to moving to Franklin, MA 30 years ago.
Ron was a machinist for many years and had worked for Boston Envelope, Masoneilan, and Natick Paperboard. He enjoyed bowling, fixing cars, playing cribbage and enjoyed visiting the Casinos.
Ronald served in the Navy starting in 1953. He served on the U.S.S. Roanoke. He was a boatswain’s Mate, Petty Officer 3rd class. He served honorably until 1961.
He is survived by his children, Rhonda McMahon and her husband Charles of Pembroke, New Hampshire, Ronald Gilmore, Jr. and his wife Rita of Bluffton, South Carolina, Lynne Christopher and her husband Richard of Franklin, MA and William Gilmore of Medway, MA.
Ron is also survived by his grandchildren Erin McMahon, Paul McMahon, Nicholas Gilmore, Madelynn Gilmore, Katelyn Christopher, Melanie Christopher, and Richard Christopher Jr.
He is also survived by his sister Marcia Gonsalves and her husband Gilbert of Upland, CA. Ronald was also the loving brother of the late Dorthy Eosco, Edward Gilmore, Albert C. Gilmore Jr., and Robert W. Gilmore.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring of 2026 at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA. Dates to be announced in the spring of 2026.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the West Roxbury VA Medical Center in Ronald’s Memory.
