Obituary

CHICOPEE – Theresa Rose Banister, 61, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, September 12, 2025. She Passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Wichita Falls, TX on January 1, 1964, a beloved daughter of the late Loyde F. “Larry” Banister who was Called Home on July 28, 1982 and Rita M. (Cote) Banister who was Called Home on May 14, 2018. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1982 and had lived in Colorado Springs for several years before returning to Chicopee. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Paralegal Studies. She was employed as a Paralegal and had worked at Alifano and Jerzyk Law Offices and Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury and Murphy Law Offices, both in Springfield and Shipman & Goodwin Law Offices in Hartford, CT. During her leisure time, she enjoyed walking dogs through her dog walking business, taking care of her cats, and trying her luck at the Mohegan Sun Casino, the Foxwoods Casino and the Cripple Creek Casino. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She leaves her beloved son, Richard M. “Rick” Betterton and his wife, Lori Beth, of Granby; her cherished granddaughter, Isabella Gilbert Betterton; her two dear sisters, Louise M. King and her partner, Paul Soja, and Christina J. Carbaugh, all of Chicopee; her three dear nieces, Melissa Motta and her husband, Giuseppe, Tonna Dieter and her husband, Eric, and Rachael Carbaugh and her husband, Patrick Bradenbaugh; her three dear grand nieces; and her many dear cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear nephew, Matthew P. King who was Called Home on March 28, 2020. Her Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Committal Service on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
