Obituary

Gary B. Ussery, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, September 12, 2025, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Monday, September 15, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 150 Lulaville Road, on Sunday afternoon from 4PM until 6PM.

Mr. Ussery was born March 20, 1950, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, to the late Rhyan Giles & Frances Marie Houchens Ussery. He was a graduate of Hawkinsville High School and completed the Georgia Police Academy in 1971. He attended ABAC where he studied Criminal Justice. He worked with the Fitzgerald Police Department from November, 1977 until his retirement in November, 2018. He was a Captain and served as Clerk of Municipal Court. Mr. Ussery was sure to provide every Tonka truck he could find and enjoyed playing on the dirt pile in the backyard with his son. He will be fondly remembered by his son Rhyan as being Superman. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jan Casper Ussery of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Rhyan & Tabitha Ussery of Fitzgerald; his mother-in-law, Betty Stone Casper of Fitzgerald; a brother-in-law, Jim & Debbie Casper of Fitzgerald; two nieces: Carla & Clint Revels and Casey & B.J. Rodgers, and their children: Will, Cason and Caroline; special cousins: Pam & Tony Armas and their children Nate & Izzy; along with many other special friends and adopted family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James Casper.
