Richard T. Ryan, 66, of South Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on September 4, 2025, after a long but well-fought battle with a series of health challenges. Born to Genevieve and Richard E. Ryan, life brought him more than his share of difficulties, and Richard carried them with resilience and a dry wit that never faded. Even in the hardest of times, he could always find a way to crack a joke.
He was an avid reader who found comfort and adventure in the pages of countless books, and he met each day with courage as he overcame addiction in his final years—showing those around him that no one is defined by a single struggle, and that people are capable of growth, change, and living fully beyond any label.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Deborah Cresswell, and his brother-in-law, Scott Cresswell. He leaves behind his nieces, Lauren Foundas and Sarah Thomas, who will hold his memory close.
There will be no formal service. Instead, his family encourages those who wish to honor his life in their own way—whether with a quiet moment of reflection, the turn of a page in a favorite book, or caring for a family member in need, honoring his memory through acts of love and thoughtfulness.
