Obituary

Homer Davis Allison, Sr., 92, of Tifton, passed away Sunday evening, September 7, 2025, at Southern Oaks Personal Care home, surrounded by loved ones. His funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bowen Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Mr. Allison will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2025, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Born in Tift County, Georgia, on October 9, 1932, Mr. Allison was the son of the late L. Herschel and Maude Davis Allison of Tifton. He graduated from Tift County High School in 1950 and worked as a horticulturalist until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1952. He served from 1952 to 1956 (during the Korean War) in the Navy as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic and was a part of the Drum & Bugle Corps. He received a National Defense Medal and a Good Conduct Service Meal before his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1956. In 1961, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, and he returned to Tifton to begin work with the UGA/USDA Watershed Research facility, from which he would retire in the 1990s.

Homer and Eldene Anne Becker were wed on November 13, 1970. During their fifty years of marriage, Homer and Eldene enjoyed traveling together to visit family, going fishing and camping, and taking day trips to walk on the beach and going "junking" at estate and yard sales, where they collected China and depression glassware to fill the shelves in their home. He enjoyed fishing, fixing any and all things mechanical, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and loved his son and two grandchildren with all his heart. He was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church since the 1970s and served his church by seeing and filling needs of things that needed to be repaired behind the scenes.

He was preceded in death by Eldene in 2020, as well as his parents, his brothers - Bill Allison and Herschel (Leon) Allison, his sister Helen Allison, his sister-in-law Isabel Allison, and brothers-in-law, Bobby Becker, Albert Becker, Marvin Becker, and Delbert Becker. He is survived by his son Homer Davis Allison, Jr. (Danielle) of Tifton; two grandchildren, Erynn and Reed Allison; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stelter, Darlene Asmussen (Loris), Melvin Becker (Darlene), Betty Becker, Rosemary Mehrer (Donnie), John Becker (Elaine), Erwin Becker (Sherry), Larry Becker (Vi Ann), and Vivian Becker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Julie Anne Asmussen, Loris Asmussen, Lon Asmussen, Randy Allison, Lee Allison, Debbie Stewart, and Jim & Carolyn Atkins will serve as honorary pallbearers.

We are thankful for the care of Traditions Hospice, Southern Oaks Personal Care Home, and the love and friendship of Jim Atkins, his lifelong best friend.
