Harkins, Marion Elizabeth – The end of an era has arrived with the passing of Marion Elizabeth Harkins, matriarch to 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She died peacefully on Saturday August 26th at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. On June 13th she celebrated her 84th birthday.
Marion was the daughter of the late Lyman and Louise (Ellis) Harkins of Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1940. She was active with the BAARC for many years and was the entrepreneur/owner of Marion’s Antiques and Jewelry until the late 1990’s. Marion was caring and understanding to all, giving much of herself to others. She enjoyed writing poetry and on several occasions, short narratives. She wrote several articles about her life in Brockton, which was published in The Enterprise.
She was a life-long resident of Brockton and was the beloved wife of the late Brockton Firefighter, Daniel F. Harkins. Loving mother of Kerry F. Harkins of Franklin, MA and Fort Myers, FL, John D. Harkins of Carver, MA, and Beverly A. Harkins of Middleboro, MA. Dear sister of Ruth Tyback of Sandwich, MA, Dorothy Phelan of Sandwich, MA, and Judith Holmquist of West Bridgewater, MA. Survived also by her grand children Shaun Harkins of Hull, MA, Kevin Harkins of Plymouth, Jeffrey Harkins of Bridgewater, Colleen Harkins of Boston, Karen Foster of Middleboro, Derek Harkins of Brockton, Kelley Harkins of Portsmouth, NH, Christopher Harkins of Whitman, and Erica Harkins of Carver. Marion is also survived by six great grand children: Ashley and Connor Harkins of Bridgewater, Brady and Samantha Harkins of Brockton, and Nicholas and Ryan Foster of Middleboro. She was the sister of the late Ralph Ellis and Hazen Ellis.
Funeral Services will be officiated by Rev. Victoria Oman. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Calvary cemetery in Brockton.
