BEVERLY - Anthony A. Burak, 83, husband of Dorothy (Foote) Burak, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, died Saturday evening, August 26, 2006, in the Essex Park Rehabilitation Center, Beverly, following a long illness.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late John and Julia (Wolocko) Burak. His family moved to Salem when he was a child, and he resided in Salem until moving to Beverly in 1957.
An Army veteran of WWII, he served with Headquarters Battery, 229th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and attained the rank of Private First Class.
After attending Vesper George School of Art, Mr. Burak was employed as a commercial artist for many years. He retired in 1988 from the Boston Globe, where he worked for over 10 years. He previously worked at Wilkscraft Printing in Beverly, and earlier worked for the Boston Herald Traveler.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons, Stephen A. and his wife Mary Burak of Newbury, Richard J. Burak of Beverly, one daughter, Susan J. Burak and her husband Utanga Ben Tati of Bradford, 6 grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Benjamin, Jennelle, Alexander and Ruddick, 2 sisters, Josephine Oliphant of Beverly, Mary Stafford of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Burak, Stanley Burak, Veronica Hansbury and Hedwig Burak.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 11 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 to 11 am, prior to the service. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
