SPRINGFIELD – Joan L. (Gokey) O'Toole, 75, of East Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, August 31, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on October 21, 1949, a beloved daughter of the late Raymond J. and Lucille M. (Martin) Gokey. She was raised in Indian Orchard, graduated from the High School of Commerce, and moved to East Springfield in 1976 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a Nurse's Aide at the former Providence Hospital in Holyoke and Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She previously was a cashier for Big Y Supermarket. She was a longtime communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. Joan enjoyed reading novels, working on crossword puzzles, and enjoyed attending the Irish dances at the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in East Springfield. She enjoyed her many trips to Ireland where she attended many family weddings. Above all things, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Raymond J. O'Toole, Sr. They were married at the former Saint Matthew Church in Indian Orchard on February 15, 1969 and were blessed with over 56 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving and devoted children, Raymond J. O'Toole, Jr. of Biddeford, ME, Maureen E. O'Toole-Roselli and her husband, Jeffrey of Springfield, and Patrick J. O'Toole and Ninalee, of Somers, CT; her five cherished grandchildren, Tyralynn O'Toole and her partner, Jeremy Malave, Brianna O'Toole, Raymond "RJ" O'Toole III, Laura O'Toole, and Ethan O'Toole-Roselli; her four cherished great grandchildren, Ariana and Wolfgang Malave, Jamal Thompson, and Kai Long; her dear sister, Luanne Curran of St. Cloud, FL; her dear brother-in-law, Paul Sotiropoulos of Deltona, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear sister, Diana Sotiropoulos. Her family will receive friends on Friday morning, September 5, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 which will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
