Obituary

James Lewis MacAuslan, 82, of Whitman, MA, passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2025, with his loving family by his side after a long illness. Born on September 14th, 1942, in Brockton, MA, Jim lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family.

A proud veteran, Jim served in the US Army before embarking on a distinguished 40-year career as a Master Electrician. He owned his own business, tackling projects of all sizes with skill and pride. His professional legacy is marked by his unwavering expertise, and his ability to light up any space—both literally and figuratively.

Jim was a devoted family man who cherished creating lasting memories with his loved ones. As a father, he enjoyed taking his wife and children camping at cherished spots like Nauset Beach, the White Mountains, and Ellis Haven Campground in Plymouth, MA. As a grandfather, he treasured visits, family photos, and laughing over silly videos of his grandchildren and great grandchild. Keeping up with the world’s goings-ons, Jim stayed engaged with local and global events, often glued to CNN and other news programs, when he wasn’t rewatching episodes of Gunsmoke or old war films.

His love for South Shore pizza was almost as strong as his desire for oversized bowls of ice cream, although he knew he shouldn’t have so much. He was dedicated to keeping up with weather reports, and making sure everyone in the family was prepared for every incoming “big storm” on its way. He also enjoyed watching, and often falling asleep to Patriots games on Sundays with his wife Gail, routing only for the home team.

Although he would refer to himself as being stubborn, he was more like a true fighter, never one to give up, and always stayed optimistic even in his most difficult moments in life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Gail Janice MacAuslan (Peterson), his daughter Tracy and her family, Josh Archer, Audrey Archer, Josh Travers and Benjamin Travers; his son Bryan and his family, Jennifer Lawrence and Emmyann MacAuslan; and his son Adam, wife Cherie, and their children Audrey, Ayden, and Ace. He is also survived by his youngest brother Arthur (Mac) MacAuslan, his wife Lori, & many nieces and nephews.

Jim’s warmth, wisdom, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace, forever watching over them.

A private gathering for family and close friends will be held on Sunday, September 14th, which would have been his 83rd birthday. All are welcome to share memories and messages at any time.
