Obituary

LIMINGTON- Richard Ruby, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at his home in Limington, Maine, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born February 3, 1934, Richard grew up in Yarmouth and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy. He was raised in a home where music was everywhere—family gatherings at his grandfather’s house often turned into legendary jam sessions, inspiring Richard’s lifelong love of guitar.

Drafted into the Army, Richard served proudly in the Signal Corps with the 82nd Airborne. While stationed in Germany, he often found ways to keep music in his life, borrowing guitars whenever he could.

Back home, Richard shared his gift with the community, playing guitar with several local groups for more than 40 years, starting with playing music at the Yarmouth Grange Hall.

Richard met his wife, Nancy, in Yarmouth more than seven decades ago. Together, they built a life full of love and family. They raised their children on Munjoy Hill in Portland, where Richard worked for the city and the family worshiped at Cathedral Parish. In retirement, the couple moved to their peaceful home in Limington, where they became part of St. Matthew’s Parish in Limerick.

Richard loved the simple joys of life—playing his guitar, feeding the birds outside his window, and enjoying time with family. A devoted husband, a man of faith, and a lifelong musician, Richard will be remembered for his love of music, his gentle spirit, and his devotion to family.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Shirley Mitton, and his son, Richard Ruby. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; daughter Sarahjo Potter and her husband James; son Daniel Ruby and his wife Wendy; and son Charles Ruby. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren—Jessica, Samantha, Erin, Bruce, Josh, Tyler, Lauren, and Kylie—and his great-granddaughter Sophia.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew’s Parish in Limerick, Maine, on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
