Dean Troup, 93, of Sycamore, Georgia, died Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Troup was born March 6, 1932, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late William Alton & Lugenia Rathburn Troup. He was a 1949 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and a member of the 1948 State Champion Purple Hurricane football team. He retired as a central office equipment technician with General Telephone. He was a former City Councilman in Sycamore and a former member of the Ashburn Jaycees. He lived many years in Ben Hill County. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and formerly attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and Sycamore Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mauldin Troup of Sycamore; daughter, Heather & Ben McWhorter of Rebecca; step-children: Rhonda & Bruce Bailey of Cordele and Brad & Darlene Griffin of Sycamore; five grandchildren: Shelby & Zack Gray, Gracie McWhorter, Railey & Jarrett Normand, Brandon Griffin, and Dr. Caroline & Tanner Marlin; and two great-grandchildren: Saylor Marlin and Oakley Normand. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Tucker Troup; a son, Nathan Troup; and four sisters: Alene Byrd, Lucille Bishop, Betty Smith, and Barbara Stovall.
