Rita M. Mahoney, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the York Hospital in Maine. She was 59 years of age.
Rita was born in Revere on February 18, 1966, a daughter of Rita (Collins) Mahoney and the late Joseph "Moe" Mahoney. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from North Cambridge Catholic High School in 1984. She worked for the Federal Aviaton Administration as a Labor and Employee Relations Specialist for 31 years. Rita was a very caring person who loved people. She enjoyed sitting out on her patio and on the bench at Eden Street Park to speak with anyone who she saw. She also enjoyed a good ice cream. She was always happy and would joyfully sing while completing a task. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Rita is the devoted mother of Casey Durham. She is the beloved daughter of Rita (Collins) Mahoney and the late Joseph "Moe" Mahoney. She is the dear sister of Joe Mahoney and Matt Mahoney. She is the loving Ari to her "bonus grandchildren" Madison and Mason Marshall. She is the beloved niece of Bernadette Merullo, Fran Collins, Billy Mahoney, and John Mahoney. She is survived by her best friends Suzy Brosnahan and Kelleigh Devlin, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's Funeral on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be private. Her visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
