Obituary

CHICOPEE – Doris I. (Hebert) Szyszko, 96, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at the Lifecare Center of Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on February 2, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Louis and Angelina (Beauchemin) Hebert. She was raised in Holyoke where she graduated from Immaculate Conception Elementary School and Holyoke High School. She moved to Chicopee in 1953 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a planner and estimator for over 28 years at the former Remington Rand Corporation in Holyoke and had previously worked in the Accounts Payable Department at the former Service Grocers in Chicopee. She was a member of the Moose Family Center in Chicopee. Doris was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she was a member of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild and a devoted member of the Senior Choir. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Walter Szyszko who was Called Home on February 5, 2020. They were married on June 17, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 69 years of happiness together. She leaves many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Lifecare Center of Wilbraham for their compassion and care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
