Lance William “Papa” Hammond
Lance William Hammond, 69, of Abington passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2025, at South Shore Hospital where he was born on September 10, 1955, in Weymouth, he was the son of the late William A. Hammond Jr. and Irene T. (Kelley) Hammond.
Lance was married to his high school sweetheart, Doreen (Frazier) Hammond, for 49 years. Together they raised two children, Jessica K. Hammond and Andrew W. Hammond (married to his loving wife Allison Carroll Hammond since 2015), were blessed with grandchildren Kiera McAuliffe, Jase Hammond, Alexis Jones, and Mariana Desouza. He is also survived by sisters Jeanne Barker, Joyce O’Brien, Mary Hughes and brother Bruce Hammond as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Mark Hammond.
Lance began his career in the family business, The Bill Hammond Company, before finding his true calling, spending many fulfilling years with the Abington School System maintenance department. He retired in 2023 to care for family and enjoy time with his grandchildren, but remained closely connected with his school colleagues and many lifelong friends.
Known for his kindness, humor, and generosity, Lance never hesitated to help anyone in need and cherished the close relationships he built. He enjoyed spending time with family, neighbors, and even took on the playful hobby of training crows in his backyard.
In keeping with Lance’s wishes, there will be no formal services. His family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life.
