John Joseph Canty, a beloved resident of Charlestown, passed away on August 27, 2025 at the age of 86.
A devoted son to the late Simon Peter and Marion (Burnham) Canty, John spent his life in the neighborhood he loved. He worked as a shipper and receiver for many years and was a dedicated caretaker for his mother. John had a quiet strength and a remarkable will to live, having battled and overcome colon cancer, lung cancer, and an aneurysm.
He found great joy and a sense of community at the Constitution Co-Op Apartments on Park Street, where he was happy to be a part of a wonderful community. John was a creature of habit, known for his regular walks to the Bunker Hill Mall to visit the Post Office and Whole Foods Market.
John is survived by his sister, Catherine Kennedy, and a large, loving family of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings George Howard Canty, Mary Heuston, Barbara Wardwell, Martin Canty, Simon Peter Canty, and William Canty. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
John's Funeral Services and burial will be private.
