Myrtice Cook Caldwell, 98 of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Autumn Lane Health and Rehabilitation in Gray, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Friday, August 29, 2025, at Empire Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lanier County, Georgia, with the Rev. James Griffin officiating. Entombment will take place beside her husband at Empire.
Mrs. Caldwell was born May 18, 1927, in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late Harrison & Minnie Smith Cook. She was the last remaining of seven children. She moved to Irwin County in 1947 where she worked for Walker’s 5 & 10, was a machine operator for Irwin Manufacturing, and managed the Save Way Store in Ocilla. She was a member of the Ocilla Garden Club and Pine Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Caldwell was active in the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Memorial Society, formed by surviving POWs of Japan, as well as the American Ex-Prisoners of War Auxiliaries.
She is survived by her sons: William & Gloria Caldwell of Gray and G.H. & Kay Caldwell of Smyrna; grandchildren: Adam Caldwell, Sarah Rangel (Wences Rangel) and Sam Caldwell (Adrian Caldwell); five great-granddaughters. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Frank Caldwell.
