John A. Lomba, 79, of New Bedford died Saturday August 26, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Rose (Miranda) Lomba.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Aires and Belmira (DaRocha) DaLomba, he lived in Providence, Falmouth, New Bedford, and Florida, before returning to New Bedford in 2000.
He was a devoted member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Lomba was formerly employed as a carpenter for various construction companies, and later by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Survivors include his wife; four stepchildren, David Neves, Rosemary Harrison, and her husband Jude, Alycia Gonsalves and Donna Revalee, all of California; a daughter, Belmira Nascimento of Wareham and her mother Cacilda Orrico of New Bedford, and his five children with his late wife Beatriz (Gomes) Lomba, Maria Baker of Orlando, FL, David Lomba of California, and Samuel Lomba, Olimpia McCall and Madalena Williams, all of East Falmouth; a brother, Simon DaLomba of Spring Hill, FL; three sisters, Carlota DePina and Ana Ledo, both of Spring Hill, and Maria DaLomba of Providence; his children's and sibling's spouses; twenty-two grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Flora Withers and brother of the late Olimpia and Norbert DaLomba.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
