PORTER- Wayne G. Mills, 85, of Porter, Maine, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025. He was born on April 8, 1940, in Porter, the youngest of nine children born to George and Frances Mills. Wayne graduated from Porter High School in 1959 where he played basketball. He had a long career in the glass industry. After working many years with Portland Glass, he went on to establish his own business, Wayne G. Mills and Daughters Glass, serving the community with pride and dedication. In addition to his professional work, Wayne gave generously of his time and talents. He served for many years as Assistant Fire Chief of the Kezar Falls Fire Department, a role that reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years and supported countless community events. He enjoyed driving the athletic bus so students could participate in high school sports—a pastime he loved to watch and cheer on. On April 11, 1964, Wayne married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandy” O’Neill. Together they raised their family with love, laughter, and devotion. Wayne is survived by his brother Thurman and sister Hilda; his children, Robyn (Jennifer) of Denver, CO, Kelly (Linda) of Punta Gorda, FL, Adrien of Porter, ME, and Heidi (Peter) of Freeport, ME; and his grandchildren, Reilly Gilliland, JD Gammon, and Emilie and Grady Call. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Sandy; and his siblings Sylvia, Josephine, Robert, Dwight, Maxine, and Carl. Wayne and Sandra also opened their hearts and home to others, welcoming foster children and Fresh Air kids from the Bronx into their family over the years. He especially enjoyed being part of Shannon Elliott Wesley’s life. Wayne enjoyed simpler pleasures—watching the Little League World Series, keeping an eye on the turkeys and birds around his home, and spending time with his family. He loved driving around with his niece, Deb Lajoie, searching for deer, a pastime that brought him joy in every season. Over the years, he looked forward to hunting trips in northern Maine, where he shared countless memories with friends and family in the woods he cherished. At home, Wayne also found great satisfaction in tending to his garden, nurturing it with the same care he showed those around him. Wayne will be remembered for his steady presence, his generosity, and his love of family and community. A graveside service has been planned for Saturday, September 27 at 1 PM at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish, with a reception following at the Legion Hall in Kezar Falls.
