HOLLIS- Betty Jane Chapman, age 72, passed away peacefully on Aug. 16, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
She was born in Portland, Maine, a daughter of the late Boyce and Rena (Wing) Sawyer and graduated from Gorham High School.
For 20 years, Betty has been a familiar face to customer at the counter at Low’s Variety – Bonny Eagle.
She enjoyed the outdoors, going on walks, bike riding, flowers, making ceramics, being with her dogs- Zena and Zeus, and most importantly – spending time with her grandchildren.
Betty is predeceased by a sister- Susan Dove.
She is survived by her beloved husband Robert Chapman who cared for Betty until the end. She is also survived by her children- Ben Chapman of Gray, Jason Chapman of Hollis, and Chris Chapman of Buxton; a brother- David Sawyer; and grandchildren- Renee and Aaron.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday Sept. 13th at 10 AM at Hillside Cemetery, Huston Road, Gorham.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held on September 21st from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Run of the Mill Public House, 100 Main St., Saco on Saco Island.
