Ann Pownall Wood, 85, of Dedham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Annie devoted her life to her loved ones, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and kindness. She was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and wore Carolina blue with joy and pride.
Annie was deeply involved in her community, giving generously of her time to local organizations and causes close to her heart. For more than a decade she volunteered at the Dedham Women’s Exchange, where she also served on the board. Her lifelong love for animals inspired her to support and volunteer with animal rescue efforts, always ready to lend a hand to those who could not speak for themselves.
She found great joy in the outdoors—walking, biking, golfing, gardening, and spending summers on Cape Cod—yet she was happiest when surrounded by friends and family.
Annie was predeceased by her brother, Fred Pownall. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Tony Wood; her daughter, Missy Wood Savage, and her husband, Erik; her son, Holtie Wood, and his wife, Kate; and her cherished grandchildren, Kyra, Hope, Ella, Holton, and Milly. She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Her life was a testament to her love of family and her generous heart.
A service will take place on Saturday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 59 Court Street, Dedham, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, 10 Chandler Street, Boston, MA 02116.
Her kindness and spirit will live on in the many lives she touched.
