Tommy Lewis Gentry Sr., 66, of Irwinville, Georgia, passed away at home on August 16, 2025.
Born October 23, 1958, to the late Thomas Rudene and Ida Carr Gentry, Tommy was a proud Irwin County native. He graduated from Irwin County High School in 1976 and later earned degrees from ABAC, Georgia Southwestern, and Valdosta State. He spent 28 years serving the students and families of Irwin County Schools as an IT Specialist and coach.
Tommy loved being outdoors, especially in his large garden filled with vegetables, fruits, and flowers, which he enjoyed sharing with others. He truly had a gift for growing just about anything. He was also an avid and successful hunter and fisherman, and he cherished any time he got to spend in the woods or on the water, especially with his nephews, Sam and Grant Hudson, who both share his love of the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Liz Gentry; sons Tommy (Tricia) Gentry Jr. and Brian Gentry; grandsons Thomas and Jackson Gentry; brother Garry (Nola) Gentry; sister Cheerie (Glenn) Hudson; and others who loved him dearly. He’s also remembered by sisters-in-law Cheryl DeBerry and Diane (Marty) Wright.
He also leaves behind his faithful dogs, Maddie, Buck, and Skye, who were never far from his side.
A celebration of life for Tommy will be held at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, Georgia, on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025 at 4:00pm with a visitation starting at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, plant something in his memory; just like Tommy would’ve done or continue his legacy of feeding others by donating to the Second Harvest Food Bank of South Georgia.
Paulk Funeral Home, Ocilla, is in charge of arrangements.
