Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD - William R. "Bill" "Pop" Anderson, Sr., 78, of West Springfield was Called Safely Home on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on May 17, 1947, a beloved son of the late Horace and Dency (Holmes) Anderson. He was raised and educated in Springfield where he lived for many years and moved to West Springfield in 2000 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a truck driver for many companies in Western Massachusetts. Bill was passionate about his 1966 Ford Thunderbird and truly enjoyed going to all of the car shows in the surrounding area. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Marilyn (Redmond) Anderson. They were married on February 11, 1967 and were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving and devoted children, Lisa M. Dowling and her husband, Douglas, of Ludlow, Charlene Anderson of East Wareham, MA, William R. Anderson, Jr. and his partner, Amanda of Chicopee, and Robert J. Anderson and his wife, Mechelle, of Chicopee; his 14 cherished grandchildren, Randy Cookish, Ashley Cookish, Nicholas Cookish and his wife, Lucy, Zackary Dowling, Hailey Dowling, Dustin Anderson, Brett Anderson, Sarah Carr, Benjamin Carr, Alyssa Anderson, Joshua Kennedy, Samantha Sanocki and her husband, Gregory, Robert Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Sheree, and Bailey Anderson; his 10 cherished great grandchildren, Penelope Cookish, Anderson Cookish, Tyler Wagner, Avery Wagner, Ella Anderson, Camryn Anderson, Lydia Anderson, Elianna Carr, Oliver Sanocki, and Bella Anderson; his dear sister, Catherine Marzolf of Elverta, CA; his two brothers-in-law, Larry Redmond of West Springfield and Michael Redmond and his wife, Chris, of Granby; his two sisters-in-law, Donna Redmond-Fitzgerald and her husband, Dan, of Springfield and Beatrice Redmond of East Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald Wood and his sister, Irene Richards. His funeral and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
