Lily H. Desjardins, 102, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Residence at Vinnin Square, following a long illness. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. Rene A. Desjardins, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Rhode Island she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Alice (Goulet) Tondreau. Lily came to Salem, at a young age and was raised by her aunt and uncle Antonio and Eva Goulet. She was a graduate of Salem Commercial School and shortly after married Rene, the love of her life, in 1947. Together they raised their young family while he continued his medical schooling. For years, Lily managed his medical practice at their office on Lafayette Street in Salem. Following their retirement, the couple settled in Boca Raton, FL and later in Londonderry, NH. Following Rene’s passing, she moved to Danvers and later to Stonington, CT.
Lily was a warm, outgoing, gracious and energetic woman who loved people and especially celebrations and simply, ‘a party’. She was passionately devoted to her family, her large extended family and many friends. Following closely behind was her love of tennis and dancing.
Lily is survived by her five children, Robert Desjardins of Oxford, NC, Marie Julien of Camden Wyoming, DE, Gerard Desjardins and wife Christine of Wells, ME, Michael Desjardins and wife Leanne of Newport, VT and Mark Desjardins and wife Joanne of Germany and Stonington, CT., her 7 grandchildren, Renee Hanson and husband Mark, Celeste Cassino and husband Anthony, Anthony Desjardins and wife Tawny, Nicole Richards and husband Stephen, Mathew Desjardins, Gregory Desjardins and wife Carolyn and Aidan Desjardins. She also leaves six great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter Melissa Desjardins, her brother and sister, Normand Tondreau and Gloria Rutherford, son-in-law Richard Julien and daughter-in-law Jackie Desjardins and infants, Andrew & Juliette Desjardins.
Relatives and friends are invited to her calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 16th at Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:00 AM. Burial at a later date will be private.
