Obituary

BUXTON- Victoria Smith, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2025, at the age of 70.
Known lovingly as Vicki, she was born on August 8th, 1954, in Westbrook, Maine, to Leora and Donald Hannon. She spent her early years in Saco with her siblings, Rick, Carrie, Donna, and Harriett, and held dear the golden summers at the family camp on Thomas Pond in Raymond—a place filled with laughter, sunlight, and memories that would last a lifetime.
In 1973, Vicki married John Frechette, and together they welcomed their daughter, Tammy Murray, of Kennebunk. In 1976, she found love again with Wayne Smith, and they built a life in Gorham and then Buxton, raising two children, Christina Locke and Corey Smith.
Vicki’s heart was always centered on home and family. In the early years, she devoted herself to raising her children and opened her arms to many others through the daycare she ran from home—a warm, nurturing space filled with stories, play, and care. Later, she brought her dedication and skill to the accounting department at Scarborough Walmart, where she worked until her retirement in 2022.
A woman of many gifts, Vicki was a talented knitter, seamstress, and gardener, crafting handmade treasures for her loved ones and cultivating lush vegetable gardens that overflowed with life. From their bounty, she created delicious sauces, jams, root beer, and her famous zucchini relish—each a taste of her love, preserved and shared.
In retirement, Vicki embraced the joy of camping and traveling with family, gathering around glowing campfires beneath starlit skies, and savoring the simple, beautiful moments with those she held dearest. As “Gram,” she proudly watched over her grandchildren—Nicholas, Katherine, Clayton, Dakota, Leora, and Shylow —and adored her great-grandchildren—Emilia, Charlotte, Ryker, Damian, Margeaux, Sylvia, and Henry—each one a bright light in her life.
Her family carries a timeless belief: that we return, in some way, to those we love. Vicki once shared that she would come back as a hummingbird, dragonfly, or cardinal, flitting softly through the garden, carried on the breeze. So let us keep the feeders full, and our hearts open—for her gentle spirit may be closer than we think.
Victoria Smith will be remembered for her boundless warmth, her quiet strength, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her—and in the stories, laughter, and light she leaves behind.

Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, October 5th from 1-4 at the Moody Collision Center's Function Hall, 200 Narragansett Street, Trail, Gorham Me 04038. FMI:
