Curtis James Ferreira, 61, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away at his daughter’s house on July 30, 2025. He was born on January 31, 1964, to Paul J. Ferreira and the late Diane (Chieppa) Ferreira.
Curtis was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and a former machine operator at Chamberlain where he worked along side his father for many years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed refinishing hardwood floors on Cape Cod and the Islands—though he was most proud of the work he did in his children's homes. An avid lover of nature, he loved fishing and camping with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time at the New Bedford airport, watching planes arrive and take off, or parked by the beach taking in the view.
Anyone who knew Curt knew his love for his family surpassed everything—except maybe a cold glass of Coca-Cola, cooking up his craziest concoctions and making sure everyone tried some, or collecting any kind of metal.
Above all, his greatest accomplishment was being a Father to his three children, whom he lovingly raised with his ex-wife, Cherie, while living in Acushnet for over 15 years.
Curtis is survived by his children: Sheena Ferreira and her partner, Troy Selley, of New Bedford; Ross Ferreira and his fiancée, Melissa Casmira, of Acushnet; and Marissa (Ferreira) Spencer and her husband, Robert Spencer, of Dixon, Missouri. He was predeceased by his daughter, Christy Ferreira, and often stopped by Pine Grove Cemetery to spend a quiet moment with her.
He is also survived by his favorite grandchildren: Aria, Christopher, Silas, Cooper, Ryder, Tobias, Barrett, Logan, Elijah, Jonah, Wesley, and twins Isaac and Isaiah; and step-grandchildren, Alexandria and Jaime. He leaves behind his father, Paul Ferreira, brother, Dwayne Ferreira; nephews and nieces, Kyle and Sasha Alves, and Isaiah and Sydney Ferreira; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom he enjoyed growing up and spending time with through the years.
A celebration of life will be held on September 7 from 3 to 6 PM at the Acushnet Grange. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a Veteran or Mental Health Foundation of your choice
