Obituary

Karl F. Knight, of Massachusetts, passed away on July 24, 2025, at a hospital in Gardner, MA. He was born in Leominster, MA, and lived a full life grounded in service, family, hard work, and a great sense of humor. In 1964, Karl enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving honorably as a machinist aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex CV-9. Following his military service, he married Joan Person in 1969, and went on to build a family and successful construction business, which he ran with skill and dedication. Karl was a master mechanic and passed down his love for cars to his children.. Back in the day his 1967 GTO and 1970 Dodge Charger were more than vehicles — they were symbols of his passion, craftsmanship, and pride. After retiring, Karl moved to the Gulf Coast and met his devoted partner Alice Mayfield. He embraced the beach life, spending endless hours fishing, soaking in the sun and playing pool. He entered and won many pool tournaments. He had a wicked sense of humor and could always make you laugh — a quality that endeared him to everyone who knew him. In his later years, Erin Griffin, his dedicated home health aide, provided him with extraordinary care and friendship, for which his family is deeply grateful. Karl is survived by his brother David and his wife Joan of Leominster, and his sister Shelia of Fitchburg; his two children, Karl Knight of North Carolina and Jen Luoma of Leominster; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, ten nieces, and eleven nephews. In his last days, he found peace in accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared.
