Obituary

Jean Patricia Metcalf
Born May 30, 1940 — Passed August 2, 2025

Born Jean Patricia Nelson to Emma J. Griesharber and Herbert E. Nelson of Malden, MA, Jean cherished her childhood summers on Plum Island, creating lasting memories with her beloved mother.

Her deep faith led her to the Malden Congregational Church, where she found both spiritual guidance and the love of her life, Noel Metcalf. The two became high school sweethearts and built a beautiful life together in Tewksbury, raising three children: the late Richard A. Metcalf, Kenneth W. Metcalf, and Sandra J. Ricardo.

Jean and Noel were the life of every gathering—twirling through dances, sharing laughter, and lighting up the room with joy. Jean’s artistry flourished through her career as a seamstress, with a special passion for fashion. She lovingly handcrafted wedding gowns for her children, nieces, and friends—each a labor of love and a reflection of her patient spirit.

She and Noel joined the Tewksbury Congregational Church, where they served on numerous committees and were honored as Lifelong Deacons. Jean was an unwavering presence in her community, dedicating her time, energy, and talents to help others. Her active involvement in the Emblem Club, Garden Club, and Masonic community reflected her generous heart and commitment to service.

Perhaps her greatest joy, besides family and faith, was found on the snowy slopes of Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford, MA. For 35 years, Jean taught thousands to ski and served as Ski School Director. Her leadership and mentorship inspired generations of instructors, breaking barriers and blazing trails with grace and grit.

Jean is lovingly remembered by:
• The family of her late son, Richard Metcalf: his wife Pat; their son Rick and wife Kimberly, and children Ashton, Levon, and Zander of Ayer, MA; and their daughter Courtney Amendolia and husband Pat, with children Jaxon and Lila of Nashua, NH.
• Her son Ken Metcalf and wife Mary, with children Sophia and Nathan of Franklinton, NC.
• Her daughter Sandra Ricardo and husband Paul of Goffstown, NH; their daughter Emily and husband Keegan Shae of Haverhill, MA; and son Eric Pomer and wife Amber, with children Aubree and Calvin of Londonderry, NH.
