Obituary

Virginia Marie Lynch, 84

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Virginia Marie (Travers) Lynch, age 84, passed away on Monday August 4, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Mary (Connors) Travers and Thomas Travers. Virginia is preceded by her brother Thomas and her sister Mary. Her other brothers are Raymond, Robert and Mark.

Virginia was born on November 10, 1940 in Concord, New Hampshire and was proudly a graduate of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. A number of years later she went on to become an Adult Nurse Practitioner having earned her certification through Massachusetts General Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard University. Virginia operated her medical practice in a number of places including Foxboro Area Health Center, Franklin Health Center and most recently at the University of Massachusetts, Boston Student Health Center. She specialized in medicine serving young adults and was highly regarded by her patients for her knowledge and her empathy.

Virginia's medicine was extremely important to her and using it to benefit the poorest of the poor in developing countries was a life goal. As a result, after learning to speak Spanish fluently, she started her career in nursing as a volunteer in Lima, Peru for two years in the Papal Volunteers for Latin America (PAVLA) Program. She continued during her lifetime to go away to different countries to volunteer her medical services for one or two weeks to Haiti (Mother Theresa's Group), to Honduras and the Dominican Republic (MEDICO). Locally, Virginia did volunteer work at Pine Street Inn.

She and her husband, Robert, had a passion for world travel and have been to many countries including most of South and Central America, the Caribbean Islands, Kenya, Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand, China, and most of Europe, essentially six of the seven continents. It was her habit in traveling to bring extra clothing and pharmaceuticals to leave for people in need.

Devoted mother of Diane, David, Julie, Kenneth and Kelly; Virginia has always been very proud of her children. But, of course, not as proud as she is of her grandchildren who are according to age (youngest first): Michael, Caroline, Lauren, Sarah, Patrick, Ella, Katie, Jacqueline, Camille, and Ryan.

Among her many very positive human qualities, Virginia will be remembered for her intelligence, her great sense of humor, and her humility.

Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, August 11th at a time to be announced in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield.

Burial is private and visiting hours are omitted.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
