Obituary

Richard M. Dunning, known to his friends as Mark, 77, of Windham, NH, died July 30, 2025, in the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, N.H. He was born on January 27, 1948, in Lowell, MA, the son of the late Clifford and Miriam (Cheney) Dunning. He had been a resident of Windham since 1990, but spent the majority of his time in Derry, N.H. Mark proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was a proud veteran. He was a post member at the VFW Post #1617 in Derry, N.H and a valued member of the Halcyon Club, also in Derry, N.H.

For many years, Mark was employed at Shaw’s Supermarket in Londonderry, N.H., where his strong work ethic and commitment were deeply valued. He was well liked by his coworkers and respected for his dedication. Mark had a unique personality, was extremely intelligent and was always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his sense of humor, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life. He was considered part of the family to the members of the VFW Post as well as to members of the Halcyon Club.

He is survived by his cousin, Kevin McDonough and his wife Mary of Smyrna, DE.

There will be a celebration of life held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 1:00PM at the VFW Post 1617, 18 Railroad Avenue, Derry. Mark will be interred on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen, NH .
