Obituary

MECHANIC FALLS- Mechanic Falls – Paul R Potvin “Togue 1”, 72, passed away on July 29, at the Andwell Hospice House after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Paul was born in Lewiston Maine on November 7, 1952. A son of the late Rene “Pete” Potvin and Jacqueline Gagne. After graduating from Edward Little Highschool, Paul went on to work in many local shoe shops for 40+ years as a Littleway Stitcher and Foreman. Shortly after leaving the shoe business Paul went to work for his brother Gary Potvin, the former owner of Pine Tree Food Equipment for 5 years, before retiring and becoming a much beloved school bus driver for RSU 16 and known by the kids as “Mr. Paul”.

Paul had a love for the outdoors and could frequently be found with friends and family either hunting, snowmobiling, or fishing. Paul would not hesitate to tell funny stories about his outdoor adventures with his brothers, large fish caught, and deer taken, as well as his trips to Long Lake in New Brunswick, Canada where he would guide a few weeks of the year for a friend’s sporting camp. He loved to share his fishing knowledge with people and has made many friend connections throughout his life as a result. He would have no problem walking up to people he did not know, and strike up a conversation with “Hey, do you fish?”.

Paul’s outgoing nature will be missed by all who loved him.

Paul was predeceased by his father Rene “Pete” Potvin who passed away in 2009. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Jeannine (Cantin) Potvin; daughter Jennifer Doucette and husband Brian of Mechanic Falls; two grandchildren Brianna Doucette, and Bryce Doucette of Mechanic Falls; Mother Jacqueline Potvin of Minot; brother Dennis and wife Sharon of Minot; brother Gary and fiancé Francesca Obrein of Florida; sister Janine and husband Chris Cameron of Minot. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Paul’s family would like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at Andwell Hospice House for their dedication to the care of Paul in his final days.

A funeral mass and celebration of life is being planned and will be finalized in the next few weeks.
