John P. Korkutis, 74, of Plymouth, formerly of Dorchester and South Boston, died Saturday, July 26th surrounded by his family. John (Jonas or ‘Cookie’) was born and raised in South Boston to loving parents Joseph and Sophie Korkutis. John grew up in the Lithuanian community of South Boston and was greatly moved by his parents’ escape from the conflict in Lithuania in the 1940s. Growing up, John worked at Sully’s on Castle Island, was active in the Southie sports scene, played bass guitar in a band, and was an avid bowler at Lucky Strike. John loved live music, game shows, New England sports, and reading Tom Clancy. He attended Boston Technical School followed by Burdette College. John will be dearly missed by his wife Clare (Brooks) Korkutis, son Justin Korkutis, daughter Jamie Burton and her husband Paul of Braintree, and daughter Jillian Korkutis of San Francisco. John was very proud of his children and was over-the-moon with the news of becoming a grandfather this coming Christmas. John is also survived by his sister Ann Fleming and predeceased by his parents and brother Joseph Korkutis. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 31st from 4-7pm at Casper Funeral Services in South Boston at 187 Dorchester Street. To celebrate John’s love of N.E. sports, visitors are asked to wear their favorite Boston sports attire to the wake. Funeral mass will be held at 11am on Friday, August 1st at St. Peter’s Lithuanian Church at 75 Flaherty Way, South Boston.
