Ola Mae Dowdy, 84, of Irwinville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Beverly Health Care in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, August 26, at the Irwinville Baptist Church, with Rev. Sonny Pate, Rev. Doug Gibson and Rev. Stan Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in Waterloo Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ocilla from 7 until 9, Friday evening.
Miss Dowdy was born November 12, 1921, in Crisp County, to the late Joe Daniel and Annie Bell Baker Dowdy. She took care of her parents until their deaths. Miss Dowdy loved children and helping others. She gave to the community and her church, Irwinville Baptist, where she was active with the children’s department. Miss Dowdy was a former employee of H.R. Kaminsky & Sons and a former sitter. She was a member of the Woodmen Of The World and very active with the Bernhardt Singers and the American Red Cross Blood Mobile.
Miss Dowdy is survived by her sister and brother-in-law: Dollie & Royce McSwain of Tifton; brothers and sister-in-law: Mark Dowdy of Bloomingdale and Willis & Carlene Dowdy of Tifton; sisters-in-law: Agnes Dowdy of Irwinville and Elva Dowdy of Fitzgerald; close friend: Mary Bradley of Irwinville, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, E.B. Dowdy, Lunie Dowdy, Otis Dowdy, an infant brother, sister and a half brother.
