Obituary

Judith Ann Mitchell
March 26, 1941-July 21, 2025
Judy, 84, passed peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA. The firstborn child of Marjorie Mary (Swaller) and Norman Lewis Hessels. She grew up on the beaches of Lordship, Ct with sister Laurel Curran and late brother Robert Norman Hessels next door to the Diedricksons. After graduating from Stratford High School, Judy worked in the Admissions office at the University of Bridgeport. It was there that the late Andrew John Mitchell pursued Judy. They wed on July 15, 1960 and settled in Huntington, CT where they raised daughters Alicia Mitchell and Julie Marra who would 'walk 500 miles' for her.
The highlight of Judy's career was being a travel Agent for Robustelli Travel. In her tenure there she took her family on many wonderful vacations across the USA and her favorite, cruises.
In the early years on Cedar Hill Rd. Judy enjoyed various art (painting), crafts (macrame), travel (NYC), home decor, party planning and tag sales. She loved to decorate and demonstrate, with Aunt Joan Parzyck, the art of Ukrainian Easter Eggs. Judy perfected the Caesar salad recipe and it was a permanent request at the neighborhood Christmas party.
Managing a restaurant called "The Dinghy" in Dennisport with Andy, Laurel & the late Jim Curran and Rob Hessels brought the Mitchells to Cape Cod.
On most weekends, Judy pursued her passions of the beach or finding treasures at yard sales and the Sandwich Auction House. She then opened a shop with Alicia called "Relatively Rare" selling antiques and collectibles in Seymour, CT. Julie and her husband Stephen Marra gave Judy the joys of grandchildren, Sophia and Vincent Marra. They lovingly called her "Nana Banana" for her peanut butter and banana snacks on the deck. Her pride soared as she watched Sophia begin her path to become a doctor at Quinnipiac University and Vincent begin his Computer Science Master's at Stevens Institute of Technology. Judy was also able to make a trip to see the Marra's beautiful new home in Rehoboth Beach.
The Mitchell/Marra family thank all the family and friends for the love and support especially the Currans, Hessels, Roots, Fletchers, Laughlins, Degnans, the Condo crew, the Giordino's crew this past year and all the Cape Cod Hospital (3a North and 4 Mugar). Mom's wishes were that we celebrate in Life with a party TBD.
Donations in her honor may be made by check to the Dennisport Fire Department, 883 Main St, West Dennis, MA 02670. Also your personal blood donation at Cape Cod Healthcare Blood Mobile.
