Sam L. Chestnutt, 79, of Wray, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Gene Chestnutt, Rev. Ronnie Howell and Rev. William Pope will officiate with burial to follow in Sumner Cemetery in Sumner. Terry Chestnutt, Brian Chestnutt, Drew Chestnutt, Don Chestnutt, Hal Chestnutt, Jr. and Josh Chestnutt will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 24, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Chestnutt was born on June 26, 1927 in Worth County and was the son of Willie David Chestnutt and Dixie V. Long Chestnutt, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Chestnutt. He was retired as an insurance salesman and of the Baptist faith. He was also a veteran of the United States Army in World War II.
Mr. Chestnutt is survived by his wife, Wynell Howell Chestnutt of Wray; five sons, Hal Chestnutt of Clarkesville, Gene Chestnutt of Valley, Alabama, Terry Chestnutt of Valley, Alabama, Drew Chestnutt of Tifton and Brian Chestnutt of Wray; two sisters, Hortense Simerly of Cleveland, Tennessee and Mildred Willis of Cleveland, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
