Francis Paul Harland, Jr. 78, of Franklin died July 24 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a long illness.
Born in Boston, October 16,1946, the son of the late Francis P. and Sarah (Flaherty) Harland, Francis was raised in Mattapan and had lived in Franklin for over 50 years.
Francis had worked for the Suffolk County Sherriff’s Department for 32 years before retiring as a Captain. He also served in the Army Reserves for several years.
He enjoyed golfing & listening to his “county-western station”, as he like to call it.
He spent over a decade coaching both Franklin baseball & football at the youth level and loved a chance to be on the field himself, playing pick-up softball with his friends.
Francis is survived by his children Brian Harland of Hopedale, Kelly & Jim McKenna of Walpole and Kristen & Chris Spillane of Franklin and was the father of the late Katie Harland.
In addition to his children , he is survived by his siblings, Robert Harland of South Boston and Margaret Ann Kelleher of Marshfield. As well as several nieces and nephews.
Francis is also survived by his grandchildren, Regan and Isabella Harland, Jimmy, Kaleigh and Owen McKenna and Kaitlyn, Ryan and CJ Spillane.
Along with his family , Francis is survived by his long-time partner, Peggy Goehring.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from Noon to 1:30 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
