Obituary

HOLLIS- Richard D. Winslow

It is with a broken heart that I share the passing of my beloved husband, Richard D. Winslow. Dick passed away at the age of 68 on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with AL Amyloidosis.

Dick was born on August 1, 1956, in Biddeford, Maine to Annie May DeLaite and Robert S. Winslow. He was one of six children and grew up with a deep love for the outdoors, a strong work ethic, and a heart full of generosity.

He is survived by me, his loving wife of 16 years. He also leaves behind his son Mike and wife Ashley of Millinocket, and his stepdaughter Morgan and her husband Sam Teague of Texas. Dick was so proud to be “Grampa” to three amazing grandchildren: Cora, Greg, and Jaeden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart, including Pam and Cliff Chapman of Gray, Maine, and Kathy and Steve Haggeman of Standish, Maine.

Dick spent 33 years as a diesel mechanic at C.B. Kenworth and then went on to work in the transportation department for RSU 57 for four years before retiring in 2022. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything—plumbing, electrical, cars, trucks, even an 18-wheeler. Around here, we used to joke that you could just call 1-800-Dick—he’d get it done, and always with a smile.

Recently, Dick had bought a Rat Rod that he had big plans to fix up—another project he was excited to throw himself into. That car, like so many things in his life, was a symbol of his passion for working with his hands and bringing old things back to life.

There won’t be a headstone to visit—Dick wanted to roam the great outdoors. He’ll be fishing the lakes and ponds with Mike in their new Maine Freighter, riding a motorcycle again, maybe hunting another moose. He always said he liked to “take his gun for a walk in the woods with Mikey.” He might even build me a few more birdhouses and take me to find a new quilt shop, just because.

Before he passed, he told me he’d always be by my side—and I believe that with all my heart.

Until we meet again, my love, you are deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton on Thursday July 31, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with an open gathering immediately following at our home.
