Charles “Alton” Benefield, Jr., 48, of Sycamore passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Mr. Benefield will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jason Cross, Mitchell Weldon, Jerry Bennett, Matthew Smith, Josh Mallard and Chris Whitley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Tift County Fire and Rescue.
Born April 15, 1977, in Tifton, Alton was the son of Charles Alton Benefield, Sr. and Marie Webb Griffin. He was self-employed with Movers and More but also served as a paramedic and worked in several counties. He had earned his Associate degree in Paramedicine. His family was very dear to him. He wanted people to be happy, so he was quite a jokester and loved to make people laugh. He was a hard worker and helped anybody he could. He attended Awaken Church in Tifton.
Alton is survived by one son, Blake Benefield of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Jessica “Jessi” and Tyler Lyons of Omega; his father and step-mother, Charles and Faye Benefield of Tifton; his mother, Marie Griffin of Tifton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Adam and Lara Benefield and Shane and Anjie Benefield, all of Tifton; one granddaughter, Ensleigh Lyons; the mother of his children; Delaine Benefield; his girlfriend, Nichole Daughtrey; and his dog, Sophie.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to the family.
