Andover—Rita (Hamel) Arsenault, 98, died in her apartment at Atria at Marina Place, Quincy, MA, on Saturday, July 11, 2025.
Mrs. Arsenault retired from the Town of Andover in 1999 where she had worked as Administrative Assistant to the Principal, at Shawsheen and Sanborn Schools for 20 years. She continued as a volunteer in various capacities until 2020 when she retired permanently due the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown.
Mrs. Arsenault was a member of St. Augustine’s Church, Andover, until her move from her Shawsheen home of more than 60 years. Born in Lawrence, she attended Sacred Heart grammar school and, later, Andover High School. Her interests, in addition to loving wife and mother, included gardening, daily walking, candlepin bowling, “45s” card parties, and musical theater.
She leaves sons Richard Arsenault of Quincy and his husband Joseph Lachimia; Russell Arsenault of Tarpon Springs, FL, and his wife Liz Markewicz; her sister Irene Proulx of Lawrence, Atkinson, NH, and North Andover, MA; and several dear nieces and nephews. Her husband, Raymond Arsenault, predeceased her in 2001, and her brother, Henry (Hank) Hamel predeceased her in 2021.
Arrangements: There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will celebrated on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11 AM in St. Augustine’s Church, 43 Essex St., Andover. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
