Daniel J. Donovan
Former Tewksbury Firefighter
Daniel J. Donovan, age 68, of Dracut, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away from an apparent heart-related condition at the Lowell General Hospital on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
He was the beloved husband of Robin A. (Floyd) Donovan, with whom he celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on May 10, 2025
Born in Lowell on July 6, 1957, he was the son of Louise (Morris) Donovan, who survives him, of Methuen and the late Frederick H. Donovan, a former Tewksbury Fire Department Captain, who passed away on February 4, 1979.
Dan was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1975.
Following high school, he entered the construction industry and for several years for the O’Brien Roofing, Siding & Gutter Company in Tewksbury. In 1984, he began his career on the Tewksbury Fire Department, where he served until 1998 when diagnosed with leukemia forced him to retire.
After many years of treatment, Dan’s leukemia diagnosis stabilized and in recent years he was able to help the Pinnacle Construction Company.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by six children, Amy L. O’Malley, of Plymouth, Erin E. O’Malley, of Dracut, Brianne Rae Bergeron and her husband Daniel, of Dracut, David D. Donovan and his wife Malavy, of Chelmsford, Leah M. Donovan, of New Bedford, and Adam M. Donovan and his fiancé Miranda Hulme, of Dracut: thirteen grandchildren, Eliza and Morgan Brox, Maxx Barrett, Skylar, Alyssa, Kelsey, Gwendolyn, Adelyne, and Loralye Bergeron, Darin and Emilia Donovan, Madison and Andrew Steele. Dan was the brother of Gary Donovan and his wife Gail, of Wilmington, Patty Comeau and her late husband Jack, of Methuen, Dorothea Johnson and her husband Kevin, of Tewksbury, and Laurie Roberts and her husband Douglas, of Lyndonville, VT. He leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Calling hours are Monday, July 21, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Those attending are asked to meet at church. Interment of his ashes will be held privately at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.givenowlls.org
